Can anyone give me some specific instructions on how to change a serpentine belt?

i have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 v8 5.2l the pulleys are on the front of the engine. i have helped and watched change these suckers before. which pulley is the give? the one that relaxes so you can get the belt on and what/how do i use on it to make it give? any help would be much appreciated. thanks guysCan anyone give me some specific instructions on how to change a serpentine belt?First, check to make sure you have a belt routing diagram available so you put the %26quot;sucker%26quot; back on the way it came off. There should be a diagram under the hood. It will show the location of the tensioner. If there is no diagram, draw a picture so you know how it goes back on. Then, take a look at your pulleys. You will have your major accessories (A/C, Alt, P/S, Crank), these are not the tensioner. You will most likely have an idler pulley as well, this is also not the tensioner. The one that is left is the tensioner, I can't remember for sure where it is located on this particular engine. Some release with a 3/8 square drive, some use a socket, usually in the neighborhood of a 15mm.Can anyone give me some specific instructions on how to change a serpentine belt? There is a special tool to do this. I just use a breaker bar and a socket. You will need to relax the tension on the tensioner.

www.autozone .com has a photo of an older dodge belt. Can anyone give me some specific instructions on how to change a serpentine belt?its the tensioner pulley and there should be a diagraphm under your hood someplace showing the configuration of the belt and the tensioner puller, usually you can get an open ended wrench on the back side of the tensioner and pry enough to release the belt. Can anyone give me some specific instructions on how to change a serpentine belt?the simple way is to look for the diagram on the frame of the car right by where you open the hood, as to the tensioner and pulley, put a socket on it and try to turn it, if the bolt comes loose you got the wrong one if it moves with the bolt it's the tensioner. good luck and if you are going to be a do it yourself mechanic I'd suggest going to the parts store and buying a Chilton book. it has pictures of the engine and it will walk you thur almost everything..... good luckCan anyone give me some specific instructions on how to change a serpentine belt?Make a diagram of the belt path first. It can be confusing.

There should be a tensioner loosen bolt, usually nest to the alternator or on the alternator.

So like a regular belt, slip off the old and replace with the new.

Use your diagram to place the belt on the right pulleys. Some makes have a printed diagram for you.

Tighten the tension up to a point that meets the specification in your owners manual. When the belt is tight you should not have any deflection of more then 1/4%26quot; pushing down on it at the longest run. Longest run is usually between water pump and alternator.

Have funCan anyone give me some specific instructions on how to change a serpentine belt?wich ever one has a spring -like give on the bolt . trust me and draw it out first so you put back on right. I just did mine three days ago and it busted again. My a/c pulley is stuck and wont rotate so its just burning my belt up so im gonna try and find a smaller belt and bypass my a/c all together . so make sure all your pulleys rotate before you put a new one on so you dont wind up where i am
