Once you got the bolt off loosen the belt tensioner then slide the belt off, now reverse and done, you can go to hondahookup.com and reg to be a member and download there manuals.Does anyone know how to change the timing belt on a 1994 Honda Civic Si?youll need big guns o_0

How do I change the belt out in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT?

this is the main belt on the passenger side of the engine. The engine is a front wheel drive which is not a problem for me but it looks like I have to support it with a jack before I can take the belt off.How do I change the belt out in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT?well it depends on the motor mount on the front of the engine but you will probablly have to take it off before you can get the belt off and then use the belt tensioner to release tnesion and rerout it the same way it comes off.

note* always use a block of wood under the oilpan when you have to jack the motor up before you loosen then motor mount

the block of wood is to protect the oil pan.How do I change the belt out in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT?Look for the idler pulley, then get a half inch ratchet use it to take the pressure off of the belt, slide the belt off of one of the pulleys and then out of the engine bay. Do the reverse to put the new one on. **Make sure your belt diagram is still on the hood or near the radiator for reference when you re-install.How do I change the belt out in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT?Depends on the motor. Is $351 a good price for timing belt change from Honda?

I need to get my timing belt changed, and I'm just wondering if $351 (cdn) was Honda is a good price. I was originally quoted at $440. I know that I can probably get it for a better price from a local shop but is it worth the extra to have it done by Honda...especially for a timing belt?

Is there anything else I should get changed with the timing belt too?Is $351 a good price for timing belt change from Honda? It's a decent price. I have been quoted $500 for my Dodge Neon by a dealer, which includes changing the water pump because they both require the same disassembly process and they do it as a package deal. Changing a timing belt on any front-wheel-drive car is a substantial amount of time and labor because of all the disassembly and the fact that everything under the hood seems to be in the way of that belt. The part itself is maybe 10-20 percent of the cost. I also had a timing chain replaced on a big Ford V8, which was over $350. The timing belt is not something you want to scrimp on or use a cheap belt, because if it breaks or isn't installed correctly, the engine can be seriously damaged. Is $351 a good price for timing belt change from Honda?yea that's about right imports are more expensive because the parts cost more. You should also have the timeing belt tensioner , water and oil pump replaced if your doing a timing belt.Is $351 a good price for timing belt change from Honda?Yessssssssssssssssssssssssir

Renault Scenie II - problems after cam belt change?

Had cam belt changed on 5-year-old diesel Scenic. Ran beautifully before. Straight after, made new noises which are getting worse. Also on motorway, accelerating hard, there's a slight pause after putting foot on gas pedal and then car lunges forward. Dealer says there's no problem, and noise is caused by engine mounting (but there was no problem before the cam belt change). Anyone else had this happen? Was it resolved?Renault Scenie II - problems after cam belt change?I had similar problem after cam belt change, bolts had not been tightened correctly resulting in engine seizing up, I then had to have a new engine fitted, so I would suggest going back to whoever fitted cam belt and ask them to check it again.Renault Scenie II - problems after cam belt change?I'd say it sounds like the belt has been put on a tooth out. Go back and tell them this and that if any engine damage occurs you will hold them responsible.Renault Scenie II - problems after cam belt change?well truth is my car has over 300,000 miles still riding with same belt and truth is if it wasnt bad before and it is now then the job wasnt done right and you should take it back and last you shouldnt have gone to a dealer to have it done would have been the highest place and the least likely to get it done right... is why they have auto shops all a round to work on cars they have dealers to sell cars so tak eit back say its not right or go to a better shop and have it check most likely job wasnt done rightRenault Scenie II - problems after cam belt change?I just changed the cam belt on my brothers dci 100 bhp, and the bottom cam belt drive pulley does not have a key way which makes it very easy to get the timing wrong, That could obviously have an effect on the way the engine runs as timing is very critical on modern diesel engines. (Some of the 1.5 dci engines have key ways on all their pulleys, and that makes belt replacement much easier). A good dealer would take the car back and re check the belt timing, and ensure that all the locking pins used during the belt change fit correctly in there retrospective positions.

Scenic's do suffer from engine mounting problems, but if everything was ok prior to belt change then it is more likely the engine mounting is now incorrectly positioned as apposed to being worn out. Also the dealer removed the mounting so if it is worn out they should have noticed it !

How to change belt to NWO belt in WWE Raw vs. Smackdown?

    How do you do this?

Is there a difference between the heavyweight title and the wwe title?

How do you unlock new arenas?

Is there a way to compete for other belts? Which ones?

We have all but 4 wreslters and 1 extra but haven't unlocked any arenas yte and don't know how to switch the belt after unlocking the option to make your belt the NWO belt, or how to compete for other titles like the continental title. Any help is appreciated! How to change belt to NWO belt in WWE Raw vs. Smackdown?OK, to change the belt, you have to win it in a title match from the exhibition menu. Once you win the belt, you'll be given the option of whether you want the NWO version or the normal version. You can also choose between the %26quot;Spinner%26quot; WWE title and the traditional one in the same way.

The difference between the Heavyweight title and the WWE title is the same as it is on TV, they're two different title belts.

All of the belts are the same, they're just for show, neither is any better than the other.

Is it really imperative to change the timing belt at 60,000 miles?

Now, I had this done on one of my vehicles and it cost me about 700 bucks. I really can't believe that everyone driving around changes their timing belts at 60k. Of course, I realize that if it breaks, trouble will follow. Still, it seems to me that this recommendation is playing on people's fears. Is it really imperative to change the timing belt at 60,000 miles?First thing, you need to look in your owners manual and see what the manufacturer recommends. Most hondas are good for 100K miles. Go with what the recommendation is%26gt;Is it really imperative to change the timing belt at 60,000 miles? It depends on the vehicle and how hard you drive it.If it is an interference type motor, then yes it is imperative.Doing the job yourself is a lot cheaper. An interference motor is when the valves will come in contact with the piston if timing is out of phase. When the pistons hit the valves you will bend the valves, pushrods or hole a piston. Is it really imperative to change the timing belt at 60,000 miles? It is as you have said. You only have to change it, if it breaks. I agree that a lot of people don't change them at 60K and they wind up trading the car before it does break. Changing it is more like an insurance policy, trying to fix something before it breaks and leaves you stuck on the road.

You can push it, but if you ever get to 100K, I think it would be time to take that insurance policy and get it changed.

I have had them break on me, and the car was under 40K miles, but that was due to a water pump that was driven off of the belt. So you never know.

good luck.Is it really imperative to change the timing belt at 60,000 miles? You didn't say what type of car you have, but if you have an interference type engine and the belt fails at highway speeds , the $700 will seem like a drop in a bucket. Is it really imperative to change the timing belt at 60,000 miles?my car just hit the 70,000 mile mark

and you got me thinking about my car too.

i should look at your owners manual

    and check it out also.

i always just turned the page and never payed much

    mind to the owners manual.

i guess with this busy life as an American we really never care enough until we dish out the big bucks when all we really needed to do is pay more mind to the overall car and not just changing the oil every 3,000 mile and buying new tire ect

and rims for some of us.

good luck.Is it really imperative to change the timing belt at 60,000 miles? After reading the answers already on here I'm wondering what an interference engine is. I've never changed a timing belt until it broke and I've always changed them myself but I guess you better make sure yours isn't the type that is going to do damage. It is a lot of work but $700 seems a bit much. I would shop around unless you would void the warranty in which case you have no choice but to replace it at 60,000 miles. Is it really imperative to change the timing belt at 60,000 miles?Buy american. They have chain instead of rubber. Is it really imperative to change the timing belt at 60,000 miles?timing belts require to be changed either at 60000 or 90000 depending on the car. you would be so screwed if the timing belt were to break because they would cause so much damage to the car.

so it's best to change the timing belt at the recommended interval. plus it's much cheaper to spend a few hundred dollars to have the timing belt changed instead of several thousand dollars worth of damage to the engine, or even having to get a new car because of the timing belt had caused to the engine. Is it really imperative to change the timing belt at 60,000 miles?well its the best preventative maintenance its like driving the car until the vehicle cant brake anymore since you drove past the loud screeching sound which is the sign you should have them checked out just like that the belt should be change at about 60k .... yes some cars can go longer without it breaking but on some cars if it breaks you usually need a motor.... so whats less expensive new motor or preventative maintenance? Is it really imperative to change the timing belt at 60,000 miles?Dont scrimp on this. Change it . My ex didnt and it threw the motor. Book it inIs it really imperative to change the timing belt at 60,000 miles?why take the chance of ur car messing up in the 1st place? sht 700 dollars though thas too much for a timing belt change, its not a easy thing to change but then it should be around 300- 400 700 too much!Is it really imperative to change the timing belt at 60,000 miles?Nope, not necessary.

Should I change the timing belt/chain on my Toyota Camry?

I have a 2004 Toyota Camry and I just hit 100,000 miles. When should I change the timing belt/chain? My car is still running fine; just like the day I bought it.Should I change the timing belt/chain on my Toyota Camry?your maintenance schedule should tell you when to change belt but chains have no maintenance and should not be serviced until making noise, that usually doesnt happen until 200,000 miles, belts are a different story and need regular service, anywhere from 60,000 to 100,000 miles depending on motor, you need to know which type of engine you have.Should I change the timing belt/chain on my Toyota Camry?change it...it usually doesnt get bad slowly ...it snapps and leaves you on side of road..[usually at night in rain in bad %26quot;hood%26quot;]Should I change the timing belt/chain on my Toyota Camry?the owners manual probably recommended changing it around 80k.

You need to change it even if your car is running fine. I had one brake(my car ran fine up until it did) and it caused my pistons to hit and bend my valves. It cost about $1400 to fix and that was because a friend did the work for me. It is recommended you change them to keep that from happening to you.Should I change the timing belt/chain on my Toyota Camry?Your 2004 Camry has a maintenance-free timing chain if you have the 4 cylinder. You shouldn't have to change it. If it's the V6, you have a timing belt and it has to be replaced at 100K I believe. Newer timing belts tend to have longer intervals than the ones of the past. Also, if you have a V6 and the belt does break, it is a non-interference engine. That means that there's enough clearance that if the valves stop moving (ie. timing belt breaking), the pistons one crash into them and cause damage while you're driving. You just get your car towed to the shop, get a timing belt replacement service and you drive away.Should I change the timing belt/chain on my Toyota Camry?2003-2006 Model camries have 2 types. The 2.4i engine has a timing chain - which should never need replacing. The 3.3L V6 has a timing belt, and should be replaced every 100,000 miles - so if you have a 3.3L V6 camry you should get it worked on sometime soon.

The good news is you do not have an interfearing engine - so even if it does brake (yes you'll be stranded) but at least your car will be repairable - unlike most hondas which DIE if their timing belts break.

Has anyone heard of anyone having car problems because they didn't change their timing belt?

I hear many people saying you should change your timing belt yada yada yada, however, does anyone know of anyone who has had engine failure due to timing belt not being replaced? It sounds to me like it's another way for car dealerships/manufacturers to rip off the American public. What do you think? By the way, I drove my 93 Nissan pathfinder for 135000 miles without changing a timing belt, however, there were other problems.Has anyone heard of anyone having car problems because they didn't change their timing belt? This is actually not just a way for repair shops to make money. Timing belts are made of fiberglass reinforced rubber. Their life expectency is 60,000. You can stretch that to 75,000. But any longer and who knows. It might last 200,000 it might go on the highway in another 10 miles. The point is at the least, it will leave you stranded, at the most it will bend valves and crack pistons, do to the valves hitting the pistons. Granted most engines now are designed to have a belt snap and not be internally damaged. The older ones weren't. And even now there are a few that will be damaged, by a broken belt.

The point is, it's a chance that you will have to way. Do you want to spend $400 every 60,000-75,000 miles and know that it's ok or do you opt out and hope for the best?Has anyone heard of anyone having car problems because they didn't change their timing belt?First NEVER buy a vehicle with a timing belt. Make sure it has a timing chain or don't buy it. Depending on your engine you may not have a belt. If you do it could break and, depending on the engine model, could destroy the engine. I could never understand why they build cars to purposely break.Has anyone heard of anyone having car problems because they didn't change their timing belt?i drag race a chevy nova and what happens is after normal driving and you getting down on the pedal a little bit the timing has a tendency to stretch leaving slack ..that could cause it to jump the gears and thats it no car movent as in stuck .the engine would just turn over and not completly crank upHas anyone heard of anyone having car problems because they didn't change their timing belt?yes i have heard of a lot of them,i see them in the shop all the time with bent valves and timing belts broken, the most i ever seen one go was around a 130 thousand miles, and then it broke,so go ahead and take a chance with it,they will break, and when they do ,they leave you stranded, where ever you happen to be when it breaks, its a good idea to have them changed, this isn't a rip off to the public ,it actually saves them money in the long run, good luck with it.Has anyone heard of anyone having car problems because they didn't change their timing belt?If the timing belt breaks, the valves stop where they are. If a valve is open (and there is always at least one valve open), on the next stroke the piston comes up and crunches them causing major engine damage.

That said my 1970 something Datsun (Nissan) 260Z along with my 1997 Nissan Maxima both have timing chains, not belts. The chains don't (or at least rarely) break. If your Pathfider had a timing chain -- no problemo.

Manufactures recommend changing your timing belt every 60 -75 k. The belt should last longer (135k would be reasonable under good driving conditions), but the consequences of a failure are so catastrophic, that the manufactures always recommend changing the belts before there is even a small chance they could break. Better safe then sorry.

To answer %26quot;tronary%26quot; regarding why cars have timing belts instead of timing chains: The belts are lighter and take less energy to keep spinning thus increasing milage and power slightly. I don't think they are worth the headache.Has anyone heard of anyone having car problems because they didn't change their timing belt?Listen to Dodgeman, he's usually spot on. Check his record, it speaks for itself.Has anyone heard of anyone having car problems because they didn't change their timing belt?A timing belt is usually chosen over a timing chain due to it's NVH characteristics. A belt will always out perform a chain with regard to Noise, Vibration, and Harshness.

Changing a timing belt is just part of normal maintenance. Like changing your oil and filter. Bad things will happen if you don't do it-- and they'll always cost more than preventative maintenance and will never happen when it's convenient.

  • Does a 2000 Volvo S80 2.9 have the same timing belt change rate as the Turbo's?

Just what the title says. Looking at a 2000 Volvo S80 and it has the 2.9L engine. I know that in the S60's with turbo's and the S80 with turbo you're looking at replacing the timing belt at 105K. Is the S80 privy to this work as well?Does a 2000 Volvo S80 2.9 have the same timing belt change rate as the Turbo's?Yes as it is a service letter for all S60s, S80s with the 2.8 turbo or the 2.9 non turbo. While you are at it, it is suggested to change the tensioner and water pump.

Is it difficult for a fairly handy person to change the serpentine belt on a 1995 ford mustang.?

I am not nor do i claim to be a mechanic. I can do oil changes and spark plug changes. I lost my serpentine belt on the freeway yesterday pretty far from home and had to leave the car in a business park overnight....I am picking up a new belt today and would like to just put it in and drive the car home because towing it would cost a fortune. Is it difficult for a fairly handy person to change the serpentine belt on a 1995 ford mustang.?Changing the belt is simple. Release the tensioner and install the belt. But unless the belt just picked that moment to fly off, there is likely a reason it failed. Spin all your pulleys slowly, feeling and listening for noise or rough bearings. You may have another issue that caused the belt to come off, and will likely do it to the new belt as well.Is it difficult for a fairly handy person to change the serpentine belt on a 1995 ford mustang.?the schematic for the belt should be on a decal inside your engine bay. you would need a wrench to move the belt tensioner out of the way, but i've seen a single person install a serpentine belt before. if you can't find the diagram... most auto parts stores should be able to show you one.Is it difficult for a fairly handy person to change the serpentine belt on a 1995 ford mustang.?you can change it pretty easy make sure you have a rachet that fits on wheel to tightenin front by the raditorIs it difficult for a fairly handy person to change the serpentine belt on a 1995 ford mustang.?Sometimes you just can't seem to thread the new belt on without getting under the car to position the belt. If your car has that problem, you'll need a couple of jack stands to put under the frame and suspension for safety when you crawl under the engine to position the belt. You'll also need a diagram of how the belt threads around all the pulleys. You also need a 1/2 inch drive socket wrench or breaker bar to release the tension on the belt tensioner. Is it difficult for a fairly handy person to change the serpentine belt on a 1995 ford mustang.?It's a piece of cake. Make sure that you draw or take note of EXACTLY how the belt is routed. Some cars have this info on the radiator core support, but not all.

Use a 1/2%26quot; Breaker Bar (either it will have a 1/2%26quot; square hole in the tensioner bracket, or you will need a socket to fit the pully bolt.) to rotate the tensioner up, loosening the belt. Slip it off the alternator pulley, and release the tensioner. Remove the belt the rest of the way.

Take the new belt and start at the bottom, loop it under the crank pulley, then start routing it around the rest. When you get all but the alternator pully routed, use the breaker bar to raise the tensioner back up and slip the belt onto the alternator. Double check that the belt is properly seated on every single pully prior to starting the engine. It is common for people to have the belt hanging off by one groove. When the engine is started, the edge of the pully will slice the part hanging over, ruining the belt.

Some auto parts will also print out the belt routing for you.

Check the part number of the new belt vs. the old one to ensure it is correct prior to installing the new one, or better yet, take the old one with you and have it matched. Is it difficult for a fairly handy person to change the serpentine belt on a 1995 ford mustang.?The hardest part is figuring out how to route the new belt. Hopefully you have a picture in your hand book to show you the correct way it goes on. Otherwise, just install your new belt and use a 15 mm wrench in a clockwise direction to loosen the tensioner and slip the belt under the tensioner .Then slack off the wrench and put it back in your toolbox. Your finished except make sure that the belt is sitting correctly in all of the pulleys. I wish you luck.Is it difficult for a fairly handy person to change the serpentine belt on a 1995 ford mustang.?It helps a ton to have an actual serpentine belt tool to pull the tentioner out of the way while sliding the new belt on. Ant auto parts store has these. There very economical if you know the nut size in the center of the tentioner.

The one I have is made by performance tool part # W8410. It's two feet long 3/16 thick by an inch and a half wide. On the business end there's a welded on 3/8 drive square for any size millimeter shallow socket you may need. It comes with three sockets and four 3/8 crows feet open end wrenches. If you have clearance a regular socket wrench will work with a length of pipe on the end. Be careful, regular wrenches can swat you in the face the angularity isn't just right. Is it difficult for a fairly handy person to change the serpentine belt on a 1995 ford mustang.?Check the bearings on the alternator and idler pulley before installing the belt. On the idler arm there should be a 1/2%26quot; square hole, use a breaker bar or ratchet to move the arm for installing the belt.

How would i change a timing belt in a car?

its an old Probe... dodge i think but im not sure. its my sisters and we need to change the belt cause its worn and needs to be changed. her car also stalls while she turns an we dont know what causes itHow would i change a timing belt in a car?Pretty much if you need to ask, it may very easily be beyond your abilities.

With that said, here's my advice.

The Probe was built by Ford between 1988 to 1997. It was a collaboration between Ford and Mazda built on the Mazda GD platform. It shares many parts with the Mazda MX-6. It is also an old car so I understand why you would want to do it yourself instead of paying a mechanic several hundred dollars.

First, get the exact year, make, model, transmission, and engine for this car.

Go to the Auto Zone website. They have an excellent Do It Yourself section. You can have online access to many service manuals for free. You can not download the manuals. However you can print any sections you will need. You must register to access this section. Registration is free. I have never received any SPAM by registering.

You should study your downloaded pages closely before you proceed to see if you are getting in over your head.

    Some additional advice.

A little organization will go a long way.

Get some 1 quart and 1 gallon zip lock bags, generic will do. Get a roll of 2 inch masking tape. Get a sharpie. Every time you remove a part put it and any fasteners and any hardware in a zip lock bag and label it with your sharpie. If the part is too big for a zip lock bag, put only the loose parts in the bag.

Label every electrical connector, vacuum line, fluid line, etc, with masking tape and a sharpie

Most people have access to a digital camera. Before you start take several pictures from different angles of the engine. With each major component you remove take a new set of pictures. These pictures can be very helpful later on if you forget how a part goes back on.How would i change a timing belt in a car?If you need to ask that question on Yahoo answers, then you are not qualified to do it. Are they still rubber belt? and if it is something I have to do is taking it to the dealer the best bet or should I just look around for a good deal? Looking to drive it for another 5 years or so.2000 Honda Accord LX timing belt change at what mile?NO car uses a rubber timing belt..the belt you see is ur serpintine belt. The timing belt is a chain that is covered so u cant see it without removing the top of your engine.. Honda recomends that the timing belt be change after 80,000 miles. The scarry thing is that u have know way of knowing..it just goes, causing super damage to the engine of the car,(bends all the cams and rods) possably totalling it. Is it really necessary to change the timing belt of a car's engine?

My van, a Mitsubishi 2.5L Diesel engine, has just went over the 80,000 kms mark in the odometer reading. My mechanic says that the timing belt should be changed. He says that by not doing so, the other mechanical whatnots in the engine may be affected. Why so?Is it really necessary to change the timing belt of a car's engine? The maintenance schedule listed in the car manual should recommend how often a timing belt should be changed. 80,000 Km sounds ok, sooner if the car was driven in a lot of stop and go traffic, or if you're a leadfoot.

If the belt breaks in some engines, you can have lots of major engine damage, such as pistons smashing into valves. At any rate, even if the engine is designed to prevent this, the car will be suddenly disabled.

The mechanic should also check the belt tensioner, and look for leaks from the water pump.

BTW, isn't that a 2.3L diesel? Is it really necessary to change the timing belt of a car's engine?Your timing belt is crutial in keeping the car running smoothly

If your timing belt blows then your car wont run at all. This belt keeps the car in tune and makes sure that the car keeps all of its cylinders in firing order. And yes it should be replaced around the 100, 000 km markIs it really necessary to change the timing belt of a car's engine?the timing belt is what connecting your crankshaft to your cam shaft.if the belt snapped, your camshaft wont turn, your valves will not go ups and downs, your air and fuel intake will mess up,and you'll get sorts of unwanted damage.change your belt every 80k-100k kmIs it really necessary to change the timing belt of a car's engine?yeah,u should change it bcoz timing belt is so important to run a car.....without the timing belt the camshaft wont roll.....so better u change itIs it really necessary to change the timing belt of a car's engine? From what your mechanic says, you have an %26quot; interference%26quot; engine. When the belt breaks the cam shaft stops or gyrates around and hits the pushrods bending and breaking them. You need to get the belt changed as a measure of preventive maintenance. Is it really necessary to change the timing belt of a car's engine?just like everybody said....TIMING BELT is cheaper than whole engine re-built...

or next time get a CHAIN-driven..(timing chain) type of engine..Is it really necessary to change the timing belt of a car's engine? It is recommended to change the timing belt .. 80.000 km sounds little early..it can go another 80.000 without snapping .or it can snap anytime soon . that's the chance you take ..

I know i have. i am driving 3 cars at the moment

and they are all over 125.000 miles not kilometers ..well one has timing chain .the other 2

definitely needs to be done ..but i am still gambling they wont snap .. because if it dose snap .then it is a new engine for sure ..Is it really necessary to change the timing belt of a car's engine?Listen to the mechanic and change it. If it snaps you'll be paying for an engine rebuild. Better to be safe than sorryIs it really necessary to change the timing belt of a car's engine?new timing belt or new engine-----what would you rather pay forIs it really necessary to change the timing belt of a car's engine?Your engine has what is called an interference design. This simply means that the pistons and valves occupy the same space at different times. If the timing belt breaks or slips, they try to occupy the same place at the same time, with the result that your engine is instantly trashed. Change the belts.

hi, my washer wont spin and it smells like when you break a vacuum belt..does this mean its the belt? And were do I find it to buy and change it?

Is it on the BACK of the machine inside of it?

Thanks!!How do you change and FIND the broken belt on a waashing machine??Go find the model number of the washer then search for it. There's a couple of websites that sell spare parts and have diagrams of the insides of washers and other appliances. Having the model number is the best way to search.

Good luck. How do you change and FIND the broken belt on a waashing machine??Different makes have them in different places. If the belt broke you would not notice a smell if it burned through then you would smell it. You probably have two probs the broken belt and the reason it broke(frozen pump). Call a repairmanHow do you change and FIND the broken belt on a waashing machine??first off I need more info. if it is a maytag, most older front loaders, and most washers over 25 yrs old it will have a belt. otherwise it is a direct drive. on a belt driven mach there are several types. some have an idler pulley requiring removal of the pump to change the belt. Most maytags have a belt on the bottom side of the mach. where all the garbage collects. You can tip your mach back and just put the belt on the two small pulleys and then roll it onto the transmission pulley. If it is a front loader you have to remove the back of the mach and then just put it onto both pulleys. Now a direct drive which has two plastic gears with a rubber connector between them is a bit harder. you have to remove the pump and motor and then you can find it with half on the motor and other half on the trans. Does this mach do anything. If it will not agit/spin but will pump out it is a direct drive and the coupler is out. otherwise if it is belt drivin it won't do anything but fill.

At what mileage interval should you change your timing belt?

i have a 2006 4runner with 33,XXX miles when should i be changing the timing belt and water pump?At what mileage interval should you change your timing belt?I had just asked my stepdad that question the other day. He is an ASE certified mechanic and has plenty of certificates for knowing why and how and what they do. Your supposed to change them every 60,000 miles. Both of them too. Its supposed to be because after awhile they stretch and get wet which causes more of a stretch, so if you replace them every 60,000 miles, you should be good. They might be a pain depending on your car, but like you got an suv so it shouldnt be as bad. Also suv's and trucks are probably easier to do and get to then cars. So your on the safe side, lol. Good luck and i hope this helps. At what mileage interval should you change your timing belt?Somewhere around 60,000 miles give or take. If it's a non-interference engine you can go until the belt gets worn and starts causing trouble or when the water pump leaks. You change both at the same time, usually..At what mileage interval should you change your timing belt?Don't ask for information that you already have in your owners manual. The time change in your owners manual is the correct mileage for the changing of these items. If you have doubts, contact your dealership to have them confirmed after all, they built the car in the first place. At what mileage interval should you change your timing belt?depends on the car.......call dealer and ask the service department what the mileage is for ur vehicle......most are between 60 and 90 k........

also buy a haynes manual if u can for ur car (not sure if they've made on for it yet) and it will have all the service schedules....At what mileage interval should you change your timing belt?change the timing belt at 90,000At what mileage interval should you change your timing belt? When they break. How much should it cost for a tune up on my 2003 Honda Civic and a timing belt change?

The timing belt on your car is due to be changed at 105,000 miles or 7 years by the factory manual. My Honda dealer charges $400 for the timing belt, drive belts (alternator and power steering) coolant change and water pump.

In addition to the timing belt, the spark plugs should be changed and the valves should be adjusted at the 110,000 mark. The spark plugs are pretty pricy (about $25 each) but they last for 110,000 miles. So figure about $125 for the plugs installed. The valve adjustment usually runs about $125 with the new valve cover gasket.

the air filter is about $40. there is no fuel filter to change, no timing to set. you may want to change the cabin air filter as well and that should run about $45. If you haven't had the transmission fluid changed that should be done as well. trans fluid, whether manual or automatic usually runs about $60 to change. also, the engine oil and filter should be changed; that usually runs about $35 these days.

follow the care and feeding instructions and the car will last for 400,000 miles with no problem

Like what has to be removed to get the belt off the engine shaft pulley? How do you change the belt on a snapper rear engine riding lawn mower?Which belt needs replacing? The blade belt is quite a bit easier than the drive belt. It is pretty hard to describe. It will probably be easier to go on line and pull the manuals. You should be able to pull up some blow-ups to get a better idea of what it entails. Sorry.

  • Is it manditory to change the timing belt in a '02 Subaru Outback Wagon?

my car has around 89K on it. I hear that the timing belt needs to be changed on the 2.5L Subaru before a certain milage or the engine won't work. Is this true? When is the proper time to do this?Is it manditory to change the timing belt in a '02 Subaru Outback Wagon?105,000 miles is the recommended interval. you should do this. if the belt breaks your car will stop running and there could be very expensive damage from the valves hitting the pistonsIs it manditory to change the timing belt in a '02 Subaru Outback Wagon?not mandatory - you aren't forced to do anything about it. but it is highly recommended. I have an '03 and when I took mine in, I saw where is was 'fraying' (for lack of a better term) a bit, and since I didn't want to have problems that would arise should it break - yes, I had it changed.

regular service is especially important as incorrect timing may result in the pistons and valves colliding and causing extensive engine damage and therefore costly repairs. Is it manditory to change the timing belt in a '02 Subaru Outback Wagon? The timing belt will eventually need to be replaced, but I don't know the exact mileage suggestion. If you don't replace it, when it dies, you will be stranded on the side of the road. If you're willing to wait for that to happen, go ahead, but I'd replace it if I could afford to.Is it manditory to change the timing belt in a '02 Subaru Outback Wagon?Like the newer drive belts being used on most Harley Davison's and some import bikes, the timing belts are subject to wear and tear. On my Subaru GL, I was supposed to replace the timing belts every 20,000 miles. I didn't and wound up having to tow, pull the radiator, buy new belts and re-time the whole darned thing. If I had replaced the belts a little sooner, I wouldn't have had to re-time the engine. Is it manditory to change the timing belt in a '02 Subaru Outback Wagon?Read your owners manual, but around 80,000 miles sounds right. You should check the belt with the engine off to see if there are any cracks or unusually shiny spots.

If the belt breaks, it could cause all kinds of damage, and throw off the timing so much it could leave you stranded somewhere.

Have the tension arm or wheel checked by a mechanic also. A new belt is about $80.00 or more and to have it installed is about $60.00 per hour labor. Is it manditory to change the timing belt in a '02 Subaru Outback Wagon?Yes you do need to change the belt. Engines used to use timing chains but manufacturers switched to rubber belts. As you know belts fail after time. Since the timing belt drives your valves, if the belt broke you could find your pistons moving upward while your valve was left in the open position due to the broken belt. This would cause bent valves - very costly. I with 89K miles on it I think it is time for a replacement. Is it manditory to change the timing belt in a '02 Subaru Outback Wagon? On ANY vehicle the timing belt should be changed arount 60,000 miles. These things don't last forever, y'know. Also, With almost 90,000 miles I'd Spring for a water pump change at the same time. It'd be the pits to ruin a new timing belt just to repair a water pump. If you aren't sure about this, ask any mechanic you know. It WILL Be a bit more expensive but worth it in the long run.Is it manditory to change the timing belt in a '02 Subaru Outback Wagon?there is a recommended mileage for changing the timing belt on most vehicles and it is in the owners manual. It is a recommendation and it can be expensive. It will be less expensive to get it changed than to have it break, do some additional damage, and strand you.Is it manditory to change the timing belt in a '02 Subaru Outback Wagon? It's only mandatory if you want to keep your car running. 2 of my Subarus have broken timing belts, no car will run if the belt breaks. Considering that the EJ25 (what you have) is the worst engine Subaru has ever made, I'd get them changed right away. Do the headgaskets while you're in there. Is it manditory to change the timing belt in a '02 Subaru Outback Wagon?I think it is most likely due. Some cars are required at 60,000 to 80,000 miles. If it %26quot;breaks%26quot;, it could lead to more expensive repairs such as replacing bent valves depending how the tolerances are. I would find someone who is familiar with these and have it changed ASAP if it is overdue. Is it manditory to change the timing belt in a '02 Subaru Outback Wagon?I usually wait to change the belt when it starts squeaking, but that may not be for everyone :p Sorry, that probably wasn't much help.Is it manditory to change the timing belt in a '02 Subaru Outback Wagon?I dont think that the designers would be retarded enough to do something that will prevent you from using the car, lets say you need to rush your family member to the hospital and your car will not work because it automatically will not start because of the timing belt

Why is it important to change the timing belt on time?

What happens when the belt breaks? I heard so many times to change a timing belt on time, but if it actually breaks? Whats the worst it can happen? Is it true it can cost thousands to repair? just wonderingWhy is it important to change the timing belt on time?pistons could hit valves in some /most motors, then its expensiveWhy is it important to change the timing belt on time?breaking is a luck game. if you get lucky all your valves are up and nothing happens.Other than the next few days of your life sucks and your out tow money. If you're not lucky it smashes into them and kills atleast the top end maybe even pistons.

If you have a timing chain it wouldn't matter to much. Doing it might save gas and give more power.

If you have a belt and just coming around to the recommend time doesn't matter much. Do it within the next year when you have time and money.

If you 50k miles over the recommended time does matter if you care about the car do it asap. Why is it important to change the timing belt on time?Depends somewhat on the car but best case scenario is it breaks and leaves you stranded on side of road, couple hundred dollars later and your back on the road.

Worst case scenario is when the engine bends the valves and/or otherwise seriously damages the internal parts of the engine. Now your out $1000's of dollars and without a car for a week or more. Why is it important to change the timing belt on time?On Toyotas when the cam belt breaks the engine stops running and those things you need like power steering and power brakes get very hard. On other cars when the cam belt breaks the engine suffers damaged valves and stops running and you're also left with no power steering or power brakes. Thousands in repair costs are reality in cars with %26quot;interferance engines%26quot; the ones whose valves can be damaged. The non-interferance engines may not be damaged, but you can imagine how unsafe your situation becomes without power. Changing a cam belt can be about a $200 expense- maybe more if you have other preventive repairs done at the same time.

The cam belt moves the cam, which drives the valves. The pistons can keep moving when the valves stop moving and can run into them- bang bang, bang---- then silence. Do not try to start the engine when that happens because you can do more damage. Why is it important to change the timing belt on time?If your positive you don't have an %26quot;interference%26quot; type engine and the engine's free wheeling when the timing belt breaks, then I'd just keep driving it until the belt broke. Check the Gates timing belt reference below to see if you have an interference engine.

http://www.gates.com/brochure.cfm?brochuWhy is it important to change the timing belt on time?Depending on what type of engine you have if the timing belt breaks the pistons can hit the valves, thus bending the valves and valve guides, cracking the head and even cracking or breaking the pistons and bending the rods, ( depending on how fast your are going ) but since neither you nor I can see into the future and predict when and where that belt will break. It is better to change it when scheduled and not take any chances that could cost a lot of money. But make sure to ask for the old part back and tell them you want the timing belt tentioner replace also. And If your cars water pump is driven by the timing belt get it changed too

Good LuckWhy is it important to change the timing belt on time? The timing belt is what keeps the vales in time with the pistons. Have you ever seen a old clock with a pendulum and it swings back and forth. well this is what keeps everything moving in the correct order. Same as the timing belt, it keeps every thing working as it should. If the pendulum stops, the clock stops. If the belt breaks the engine stops, right there and will not restart, your stuck. You could be a hundred miles from where you want to be so that is what makes it so important. Oh and if your motor is an interference type motor, you will have some bent valves to replace along with that timing belt. This significantly drives up the cost of the repair. Why is it important to change the timing belt on time?It will ruin the engine.

But if you do it yourself, it might be just 50 bucks.

See the answer below. Changing all those parts is a CAKEWALK!!! I've changed PISTON RINGS while parked outside my storage locker, laying on my back in the gravel, when I was homeless. All professional mechanics are THIEVES! 300 dollars, my aass. How much would it cost to change a honda civic 92 dx hatchback timing belt and alternater belt and water pump?Man I gotta get Jersey to work in my shop, hes working for free at the rates he quoting.

Flat rate on your car is 2.8. So it's going to be 300 labor, the water pump is $40 and the timing belt and tensioner (you always replace tensioner it even comes with the new belt) is $70. So your looking at just over $400 for the job.

frankiegardener@yahoo.co.ukHow do I change my timing/cam belt on my Volvo s60?I am only going to provide a general answer rather than a specific one for the Volvo- assuming all belt driven cam engines are working on the same principle.

    1) remove the engine valve cover to expose the cam gear and belt

    2) rotate the crankshaft by hand to position the #1 cylinder to TDC to facilitate removal of the crankshaft pulley

    3) check for alignment marks on the cam shaft pulley(s) so that when you put in the new belt all is properly aligned.

    4) check for detailed instructions from online volvo forums before attempting this at home. How do I change my timing/cam belt on my Volvo s60?On some cars you need some special tools. Don't do this work if you don't know much about cars and how an engine works. There are a lot of details to look for, like the sequence of loosening the head bolts etc.

If you're sure you want to tackle it, get an repair manual. Study the section and get all the necessary parts and tools and then take your time doing the repair.

    It's not a small job. That's why shops charge about $400 to do it.How do I change my timing/cam belt on my Volvo s60?Get yourself one of these;

When should I change my timing belt on my 2001 Ford Focus ZX3?

My car is a 2001 ford focus ZX3 with Zetec engine 4 cylinder dual head cam. It is 5 yrs old has 84,000 miles on it now, and I was wonder when is a good time to change it . I hear it's very expensive to have it done and I also wanted to know is it a chain or nylon belt. Can a good car expert tell me some good advice on this I am just concerned about it. The reason why I ask this is because my car is making a vibrating sound in the motor. Please Help.....When should I change my timing belt on my 2001 Ford Focus ZX3?The belt is made of nylon. Check the owners manual for the mileage...I believe it is either 60,000 or 90,000 on that particular engine. The noise/vibration could be coming from the crankshaft dampener pulley. The rubber used to join the pulley to the dampener is notorious for failing. Get it checked out for sure, failure of either part could cause serious engine damage. When should I change my timing belt on my 2001 Ford Focus ZX3?every 30 k miles or when u see wear %26amp; tear or little cracks on it. When was the last time u changed it ?When should I change my timing belt on my 2001 Ford Focus ZX3?It will be listed in the owners manual when you should change the belt. • If you change the Serpentine belt on a 1997 olds cutlass and have to take off the motor mounts, will the motor?

If I change the Serpentine belt on a 1997 olds cutlass and have to take off the motor mounts, will the motor need a jack up under it?If you change the Serpentine belt on a 1997 olds cutlass and have to take off the motor mounts, will the motor?yes and be very careful, there is a trick in doing that belt but its to complicated to explain. If you change the Serpentine belt on a 1997 olds cutlass and have to take off the motor mounts, will the motor? You do not have to take the motor mount all the way out, but you do have to disconnect it, and use a jack under the oil pan to raise or lower the motor slightly. You should use a wide, sturdy block of wood on top of the jack, as it is very easy to punch a hole in the Aluminum pans.

    For a complete step-by-step procedure, with pictures, go here;

    http://www.autozone.com/shopping/repairG

then select Year, Make, Model, and Engine. Then click the links for %26quot;General Information And Maintenance%26quot;, %26quot;Routine Maintenance And Tune-up%26quot;, and %26quot;Belts%26quot;. You can click on the pictures to enlarge them.

    I actually prefer to remove the bolts on the motor side, and lower the motor slightly, as opposed to the way they show here;

    http://econtent.autozone.com:24991/znetr

or, if you prefer, you could take the whole plate out of the way, and just support the motor where it is.

This method also works good if you don't have a jack. You can just stack some blocks of wood under the oil pan, then lift the front end of the car a little bit by hand, and slip in one last piece of wood to support the motor slightly. Then do the under hood stuff, and take the blocks of wood out to finish tightening the nuts on to the studs, after the rest is all put back together. If you change the Serpentine belt on a 1997 olds cutlass and have to take off the motor mounts, will the motor?you dont need to take that mount off !!!!

remove the further most forward nut and stud (front of car...)

there is a spacer that will come out and then the belt will come right out.

it is tricky putting the spacer back in and you will need a female torx for the stud.

good luck If you change the Serpentine belt on a 1997 olds cutlass and have to take off the motor mounts, will the motor?Absolutely. Don't ever take off a motor mount without holding up the engine. Make sure you have a swear jar and a case of beers handy when doing this one, btw. :-)

When will be the best time to change my vehicles timing belt?

I bought my 02 Subaru Forester last spring. It has 112000 miles on it, but I want it to be always in good shape (everybody does). If anybody can give me a tip or info if when will be the best time to change my %26quot;Timing Belts%26quot;? I tried to ask the Subaru dealership regarding this matter but they were not honest, they're so particular about the price instead, %26amp; I hate that! When will be the best time to change my vehicles timing belt?It is time to change it if it has not been done in the past. It should be done between 80,000 and 100,000 miles. Do not go to the dealer to have the belt changed, they will rob you. Find a quality local mechanic to do the job. When will be the best time to change my vehicles timing belt?they need to actually be changed about every 60 thousand miles on that one,you can go a little over that but then you run the risk of one breaking and causing major damage to an engine,it doesn't have to be a dealer though to change that one most repair shops can do the same job at half the price, and they too will guarantee their work, good luck. When will be the best time to change my vehicles timing belt?In general it's recommended that you change a timing belt every 60K miles or 5yrs whichever comes first. If I were you I'd change it and be done with it, because the last thing you'd want is for the belt to snap and ruin your engine. When will be the best time to change my vehicles timing belt?i believe you're supposed to change them every 100,000 miles, you can check by taking the belt off and bend it, if there are cracks between the teeth, you need a new oneWhen will be the best time to change my vehicles timing belt?Typically it should be changed at 50,000 miles. So your timing belt should have been changed twice by now and you'd be 12,000 into your third belt. When will be the best time to change my vehicles timing belt?I know Kia autos require this done prior to 60,000 miles. Others require 70 and 80,000. Your car at 112,000 is due. I'm guessing about $400 for the job. Is that close? When will be the best time to change my vehicles timing belt?every 50000 miles

How do you change a belt on a washing machine..?

need some help the washing machine has broken down is here a way to change the belt? How do you change a belt on a washing machine..?With out knowing your brand and model number it is hard to say how to help you. But for the basic washer the belt goes around 4 pulleys one being the motor and then to the water pump then to the washing machine barrel. The 4th pulley is a belt adjuster meaning the pulley ride against the belt making tight. The older models you would have to loosen a bolt holding the pulley and then loosen a rod that moves the pulley.

Most likely it is a pulley with a big bolt on the top that will not loosen instead it moves the pulley instead of coming lose. This pulley is supposed to do this as it an automatic belt tightener. So you put on the new belt and then with a long socket wrench you pull back on the auto tightener and slip the belt inside there and then let the lose on the socket wrench and the belt should be nice and snug and ready to go.

Any way this is the best photo I can find one how the belt go back on but you can see it goes on the outside of the all of the pulleys except for the auto tightener, it goes on the outside of the belt which is not pictured here . http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http

Maybe, but condider this. keeping the belt current, you won't have toworry about it breaking, just when you do not have the funds to correct the engine damage, if it did let go.

I'm not sure if it is called a fan belt or a drive belt. Do I need any special tools to do this? Is this something I can attempt on my own with the help of a Chilton's book or do I need to bring it to the mechanic?

I'm pretty good with tools and I change the oil and replace spark plugs and the battery when needed. • Shall I change the Timing Belt of my car?

    I purchased a (used) 1999 Mitsubishi Galant about 6 months back. The timing belt of this car was never changed. I am planning to use this car for max. 6 more month. Shall I spend on changing the timing belt of this car? Or I keep driving as it is.Shall I change the Timing Belt of my car?%26quot;What's the mileage?%26quot;

Typically late model Timing Belts are quite sturdy and will last 80K-110K miles.

BUT.. and you knew there was a %26quot;But%26quot;!

If %26amp; when they fail.. it could be Catastrophic failure!
Most cars are %26quot;interference%26quot; engines.. meaning the valves will Hit the top of the pistons if timing/timing chain is off. A Few cars are %26quot;non-interference%26quot; meaning valves Won't hit pistons.

And with Timing Belts there really is no Warning.. nothing visual.. until you actually remove the Timing Cover and SEE the belt..

So.. this is one of those Preventive items that should be done based on mileage.
It's a bit costly however.. Parts %26amp; Labor running ~$50-$125 for belt, $150-250+ for Labor. So you're looking at about $200 to $400+ out-the-door.
If you have a mechanic friend.. time to cash in the Friendship Card!

But as stated early.. a new belt will last ~80K - 100K miles, so you won't have to do (pay) again for awhile!

    Happy motoring! :o)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timing_beltShall I change the Timing Belt of my car?i'd look at it to see if its worn or has cracks if it don't then don't change itShall I change the Timing Belt of my car?Well if you say the belt has never been changed, I would check when it's recommended to be changed and if that mileage has been reached well above I would change it. I mean 400 or less spent spread over 6 moths works out to 67 dollars a month on top of your other cost, which seems cheaper than getting towed, finding alternative means to get to work, etc... money well spent To change it, I would say.Shall I change the Timing Belt of my car?Depends on the mileage and whether or not it has a chain or a belt (chains tend to last longer). The most important factor is whether or not it has an interference motor (which I don't know off hand). 6 months?!? I'd say leave it alone.Shall I change the Timing Belt of my car?The normal time to replace a belt is around 60,000 miles. Assuming the car was drive the average of 10K miles per year, you're probably around 80,000.

It should definitely be on your list. Examine the belt - does it look dry or have cracks in it? If so, you should go ahead and get it replaced as soon as you can.

If it looks ok, you could probably be fine waiting until your next trip to the shop to have something else done. It's an ordeal to change it since you need to pull so much else off of the car to get to it. I'd consider checking/replacing other items around the timing belt at the same time...a vast majority of the cost (or time, if you're doing it yourself) is spent getting to it. So while you have it clear, you might as well do some preventative maintenance, too.Shall I change the Timing Belt of my car?Probably not. Unless you feel things slipping as you drive, it's not worth pouring the $$ to fix it. Timing belt replacement is not cheap.Shall I change the Timing Belt of my car?Yeesh. If the timing belt goes, the thing will leave you stranded and may be permanent junk. If you travel a lot of lonely roads or ugly sections of the city, it may be worth it to your peace of mind to get it done.

    But in six months... odds are that it won't need a new timing belt in that time. They tell you to change it much earlier than you truly need to, because it sucks SO bad if it goes out on you. And it's not like you can tell the guy you sell it to, %26quot;Sure, it's only worth $3,000, but I just put a new $1,400 timing belt in so you should pay me a lot more money.%26quot;

Especially if the thing is on the low side. They probably tell you to change it in the 90,000 to 120,000 mile range. If the car hasn't gone that far, then it really doesn't need it. If you're pushing 200k, though, you'll be taking a bigger chance.

I'd say that unless you're really averse to risk, leave it and warn the next guy that he'll have to do it.Shall I change the Timing Belt of my car?if you replace it . you can use the car more than 6 months more, provided timing belt installed correctly.

replace timing belt, front oil seals, and tensioner bearing

front oil seals are, camshaft seal and crank shaft seal,.

if equipped with counter-balancer shaft, replace oil seal as well.Shall I change the Timing Belt of my car?It has lasted this long. If you are sure you will sell it in 6 months, then don檛 spend the money.

Unless you are going to sell it to someone you know, then you either want to change it out for them, or warn them about it. If you trade it in at a dealership, they will take care of it. Changing it out yourself will not change how much they give you for it.

    I hope this helps.

Timing belt change for RX300 1998 Lexus?

Lexus dealer trying to rush me into changing belt for $1100. Know it must be changed periodically but if I wait awhile, can I damage anything? They say oil dripped on it from bad oil seal.Timing belt change for RX300 1998 Lexus?Check your owners manual, but most timing belts don't need to be changed before 100,000 miles. Timing belts (or chains) need to be replaced because they stretch over time, and can break.

However, if you got contaminents (oil, anti-freeze, etc.) on your belt, it is possible for them to break down sooner then they normally would. Get a couple of opinions. And why have the dealer do it, they are going to be more expensive than any other certified mechanic.

As far as waiting, if it needs to be done, then do it. If it breaks, it can cause a whole lot more damage to your engine, such as bending valves, that will cost a whole lot more in the long run. BTW, $1100 sounds like too much to be paying to change a timing belt. But it is the dealer.

Is there any problem if i just change the timing belt and don't change the water bumper?

One of my friend told me i can just change the timing belt and don't need to change the water pump at the same time. Is there any problem? Is there any problem if i just change the timing belt and don't change the water bumper?Well, the water pump might last a day and it might last 10 years. The ? is do you really want to tear the engine back down in a later time to change the pump ?Is there any problem if i just change the timing belt and don't change the water bumper? You dont have to change the water pump but since it's torn down that far, you'd be foolish not to. That would be like rebuilding an engine and putting used oil back in it.Is there any problem if i just change the timing belt and don't change the water bumper?Normally, when you change the timing belt, you would change the timing belt tensioner and the water pump at the same time. The cost of labor to change only the timing belt should be about 150% of belt labor when changing all three devices.

What kind of car are you working on? RSVP.
